These kits are revised tributes to the long since discontinued Safety Devices/Genuine Land Rover components that were a Land Rover dealer option commonly referred to as a "Safari Kit". One full length platform roof rack roof rack dimensions and weight: 81" X 53" X 1 X 40lbs. Two external roll cage crossbars with integrated clamps. One rear double ladder with backing plates. All required stainless steel mounting hardware to install. All fabricated components are sandblasted to remove impurities prior to coating, zinc primer base coated and finished in semi-gloss black powder coat. My roof racks are made using a different construction method of notching rather than the crimping/smashing/flattening method used in the originals as I think my method is much cleaner looking and ultimately stronger.

My crossbars are made with a larger overall diameter tubing and with a bend radius to match the rear double ladder and the windshield roll cage hoop (please note some of the images may reflect a older radius design) rather than the rolled radius design of the originals. I weld flange nuts to the rear double ladder backing plates to assist in installing the rear double ladder assembly to the vehicle as well as to the underside of the mount tabs on the crossbars and to the rear double ladder to make mounting the roof rack as clean and as simple as possible. My clamps are made from machined steel rather then cast aluminum like the originals as they were considered the weak point of the original kits as they were prone to cracking. Since my clamps are made from the steel, I integrate them to the crossbars with I think is much clean looking and ultimately stronger.

All my tubing bend components are C. Mandrel bent, all tubing joints are pneumatic/hydraulic notched, all seam joints are sleeved, welded and polished. My backing plates are C.

Laser cut as are the mounting brackets on the rear ladder which are also C. All my mounting tabs are stamped. All my components are fixture "jig" clamped during welding to ensure accuracy and consistency and to mitigate warping during the welding process.

All tubing is cleaned and polished prior to welding. All welds are gas M. Welded (and I'm damn good at what I do).

This rack will mount to all Land Rover N. Defender 90 soft top or hard top models. Some quotes about myself and my work. Whoever designed that rack has the visual sense of a poet.

Everything else on the market looks clumsy in comparison. That person has an amazing sense of design. If you're going for a custom rack hit up Derek at Urban Offroad, that gent has mad chops in fabrication. Derek has done some custom work for me as well as facilitate me in procuring other products that he does not manufacture. I can assure you that my experiences have all been fantastic.

In short, you can get stuff from Derek that is highly functional and looks pretty damn sweet too. You come highly recommended from the members of the Defender Source.
